If you are familiar with The Killers, you know that the frontman, Brandon Flowers, has a distinct musical style that is very recognizable. If you are not, there is a certain out-of-this-world, dreamy quality that he conveys through his voice, synthesizers and instruments of all sorts. His new album, Flamingo, is everything you might expect and more.

It’s true, people know what Brandon Flowers sounds like. This fact makes establishing his own separate career more difficult, considering that he doesn’t want to be compared only to his band.
The Killers, having released four studio albums, are known for their soothing, alternative-rock sound. On Flamingo, he jumps from synth pop to folk to gospel with ease. All of these completely different sounds, voices and styles come together to create a very unique album.
As said before, he makes some interesting moves that no one has seen from him before. The album starts off familiar with the song “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas,” his voice the focal point and drums, guitar and tambourine filling in. As you continue on through the CD, the music becomes more and more adventurous, with different stylings worked in seamlessly. Songs such as “Was It Something I Said?,” a fun, energetic song reminiscent of ’80s pop like Duran Duran, and “On The Floor,” Flowers’ take on gospel, make it clear that he has plenty of creativity to go around.
Something very surprising about the album is that Flowers had absolutely no intent to go solo. He, in fact, wanted a number of the songs to be associated with The Killers. However, he had to come face to face with a dilemma. Other members of the group wanted to take a break and he was raring to go with ideas spilling from his head like a fountain. Due to his enthusiasm, Flamingo was born.
